introduction

These terms govern your use of CineMatch. By creating an account or using the service in any way, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

"CineMatch," "we," and "us" refer to the team operating this service. "You" means the person using it. For data-protection purposes under India's DPDP Act 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary and you are the Data Principal — see our privacy policy and the rights section.

what CineMatch is

CineMatch is a curator. We recommend films and shows that are available on streaming platforms you already subscribe to. We match your taste to what's watchable tonight, and we tell you why.

CineMatch is not a streaming service. We don't host video. We don't grant you the right to watch anything. Whether a given title is available on Netflix, Prime, Disney+, or another platform is entirely a matter between you and that platform — subject to their pricing, region, and licensing.

your account

One account per person, tied to your phone number. Don't share your one-time codes with anyone; they're what proves you're you. If you suspect someone else has accessed your account, email hello@cinematch.in and we'll help you secure it.

You must be at least 18 years old to use CineMatch. India's DPDP Act 2023 requires verifiable parental consent for anyone under 18, which we don't currently support.

acceptable use

Please don't:

• Automate account creation or use bots to interact with the service.
• Abuse the OTP flow — repeatedly triggering codes for numbers you don't own is a violation and we'll rate-limit or block the offending IP.
• Scrape our recommendations to power a competing service.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive our source code or algorithms.
• Use the service for anything unlawful, defamatory, or hateful — the standard acceptable-use fare.

Violations get you rate-limited first, suspended second, permanently banned third.

third-party services

When you click through to watch a film on Netflix, Prime, or another streamer, you're leaving CineMatch. Those platforms have their own terms, availability windows, and pricing. If a title is listed as available on Prime but has left Prime since our last sync, that's outside our control. We do our best to keep the metadata fresh; it isn't an SLA.

intellectual property

The CineMatch interface, code, editorial voice, and the taste-matching system are ours. Film posters, titles, cast, and plot summaries are licensed from The Movie Database (TMDb) under their attribution terms — the underlying works remain the property of their respective rights-holders. Streaming-platform logos are trademarks of their respective owners, used here to indicate availability.

You may share our recommendations socially — screenshot a card, forward a link — but please don't rehost our content wholesale.

termination

You can delete your account at any time by emailing hello@cinematch.in from your registered number.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at our discretion, with or without prior notice depending on severity. Deleting your account also deletes your data — see our privacy policy for retention specifics.

disclaimers

CineMatch is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind — express or implied — including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. Recommendations reflect our best effort but aren't guarantees; not every pick will land, and taste is subjective.

We aim for high availability but don't promise 100% uptime. Scheduled maintenance, upstream provider outages (Supabase, Twilio, TMDb), or force-majeure events may cause temporary unavailability.

limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CineMatch is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service — including but not limited to lost time, missed shows, or a movie you didn't like. In no event will our total liability to you exceed the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months (which, since the service is free, is zero).

governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by direct communication is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bangalore, Karnataka.

changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be communicated to registered account holders by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use CineMatch after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
